Michail Antonio ruled out of West Ham’s final seven fixtures with hamstring injury

Michail Antonio will miss West Ham’s final seven matches of the season with the hamstring injury he sustained in Saturday’s victory over Southampton.
The forward left the London Stadium pitch in tears after tweaking the muscle while attempting a shot on goal in the opening exchanges.
It will be the third spell on the sidelines this season for the 28-year-old, who has missed a total 16 games between October and February with rib and calf problems, and this latest setback all but ends his hopes of making England's World Cup squad.
Antonio was replaced by Edmilson Fernandes at the weekend, but West Ham hope to have Argentine star Manuel Lanzini back for Sunday’s trip to Chelsea.
Lanzini injured his knee in Argentina’s 2-0 win over Italy during the recent international break after scoring his first goal for his country, and missed the match with Southampton.
But the Hammers hope to have the 25-year-old available for selection for the forthcoming clash at Stamford Bridge, as they try to pull themselves further away from the bottom of the table.
The victory over Southampton created a five-point buffer between themselves and the Saints, while Stoke City and West Brom make up the rest of the bottom three.

Michail Antonio requires surgery
David Moyes has confirmed that Michail Antonio faces surgery to be fit for the start of next season admitting he never recovered from an injury at the end of last season.
Moyes told reporters at the pre-match press conference this afternoon: “He’s going to have an operation on his hamstring and the biggest thing now is to get him ready for next season. We’ll miss his great strength and pace. He picked up a hamstring injury at the end of last season and has never really recovered from it. He’s had some big injuries since I’ve been here.”
On Manuel Lanzini injury and his fitness for Sunday’s game, the gaffer added: “He’s got a medial ligament injury. He’s able to run in straight lines at the minute. I wouldn’t completely rule him out but he’s a doubt.”

Try reading the article... He was injured at the end of last season and never recovered from that. So no he hasn't been fully fit this season.

I'm no expert on fitness & don't proclaim to be one, nor do I get paid a huge wage to access a player's fitness, but Antonio hasn't looked fully fit for a single game this season
Apart from his latest hamstring troubles, he is carrying far too much weight. He might well have plenty of upper body strength but he is far too bulked up
Like I said a few months ago, he shouldn't be playing till he's fully fit

There was a period of games just after he came back from last year's injury for the first time this season when he was fucked after an hour. In one game, think it was Brighton home he was literally lying face down on the pitch. His body language in those games suggested he wanted to come off but he was kept on. Then he got injured again, came back and got injured yet again, this time for the rest of the season.

There's a difference to being 'injured' and 'not fit'.
Obviously along the way Antonio has advised that he feels fine and ready to go. He obviously looked sharp and ready to go in training. He was obviously played because:
a) He said he felt ok
b) He needed to build up his match fitness
c) We needed him in the team
Whether there is an argument that when he was played he was played for too long I don't know. Again, only Antonio can advise if he feels ok to continue.
But I'll be honest I have never seen him on the floor begging to come off and he was kept on and flogged. I may have missed that but I am sure it's a bit of an exaggeration. Willing to be proved wrong.

Fuck feedback and technology, it's been obvious to any layman fan who has seen him play this season that he wasn't fit. Not fucking rocket science.
Couldn't last more than 60 mins, collapsing on the floor begging to be subbed, but was kept on and flogged. Everytime he returned from injury he was straight back in the starting 11.
This was because our squad is shit, same with Lanzini.
Simple case of mismanagement from the owners, the medical team and the manager! The club is pathetic.

You would think so wouldn't you. But obviously there's still an element of some injuries where a physio says "Well, how do you feel".
A lot of injury recovery is purely based on feedback from the player.

It's OK we can have Lanzini running in a straight line, Noble runs sideways anyway and Mario can run diagonal. Cover all the squares like chess.

Hamstrings are tricky and seem to recur if you don’t get them right but you imagine with the technology available today they can test the load the muscle can bear and how the fibres have recovered.
If he has come back a couple of times and pinged it you’d think you’d be ultra cautious the next time.
If I was the manager and it went again in 5 mins I’d be asking some serious questions.

I know injuries are a pain and often very difficult to analyse properly. Really a physio / doctor can only really go on what the patient says. You can't see inside a person and so how they are is often how you judge it.
I am assuming at various points down the line Antonio has stated he feels fine and is ready to. So at that point it would be difficult to say to him "No, you need an op". It's obviously an injury that has stayed constant but settled down and then flared up again when he has worked himself hard in games.
Even so, I don't believe our injury record has improved under Lewin and has, in fact, got worse. But is that his fault? Who know's?

I doubt we’ll ever see him in our kit again, move him on for what we can get maybe West Brom will have him!

I often get the impression as soon as they say "Hopefully he will be back for the start of next season" hes basically out until well into the season.............
Whats the odds that come August the treatment room is still very much at capacity with the usual suspects?

Lanzini has had several niggles
We look as resilient as AIDS sufferers and appear to have been lucky no one has actually died yet
So, no, there has been no change
